Virtus.pro successfully managed to defend their CEVO title after defeating mousesports 3-0 in the grand final of Season 8 (16-8 on de_inferno and de_mirage, and 16-4 on de_cobblestone).
The title decider of the CEVO Season 8 finals brought together the two group winners, both of whom reached this stage on the back of an impressive 6-1 map record.
The first map of this best-of-five was de_inferno, where the opening stages were highly contested as neither side could find a way past the other. However, as the game wore on Virtus.pro became more dominant, and the Polish team closed out the half with a significant 11-4 lead. Winning the pistol round in the second half meant nothing for mousesports, with Virtus.pro winning the force buy to regain control of the proceedings before sealing a 16-8 victory.
Next up was de_mirage, a map where Virtus.pro are traditionally very strong. The map began with Chris "chrisJ" de Jong giving mousesports the round after winning a 1-vs-3 clutch, taking down one player with the glock and knifing another opponent through a smoke. But the German team's lead was short-lived as they were caught off-guard by a force buy from Virtus.pro, who carried this momentum all the way to the end of the half as they got out to a commanding 13-2 lead.
Virtus.pro win back-to-back CEVO titles
The second half began with the teams trading a couple of rounds, but then mousesports tightened up their defense and brought the scoreline to 8-15. However, it was just too little, too late, as Virtus.pro closed out the map to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
On map three, de_cobblestone, Virtus.pro came out the brighter and won nine of the first ten rounds despite being caught out in an anti-eco round early on. mousesports looked helpless to stop Virtus' offense, picking up just two more rounds before the half came to an end.
A triple kill from Nikola "NiKo" Kovač in the pistol round as Terrorist gave mousesports some breathing room, but their spirits were crushed right after as Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski picked up an ace to provide Virtus.pro with the necessary momentum to close out a 3-0 clean sweep.
